On newer BMW and Minis, any time we replace the battery, we have to reset the system so it knows that you actually reset the battery because it changes how the alternator charges the battery and things like that.
There's a Special Function inside the scan tool that you can do to reset that battery so let's go through it right now on this SOLUS Edge and this Mini.
It's under the Engine System so we'll go in there. It's going to identify the ECU for us. This is a Functional Test so we'll go in there, and it's under Special Functions - it's Battery Replacement.
It gives you the option to either register a new battery or display the history and see how many times the battery has been replaced and re-registered. We're just going to register a new battery here.
It says that for correct charging operation, the replacement battery must be the same capacity and type as the original.
So if you wanted to go to the history, you've got to make sure your battery is correct. We already know that we have the right one in here, so we're just going to continue.
And then it says you want to make sure that you're ready to do it as the battery replacement is programmed in the next step.
We cannot cancel it after we've started so we'll hit continue and that's it - we've completed the reset. The battery is relearned to the vehicle.
