On a lot of modern vehicles, you need to use a scan tool to reset the oil change reminder light.
Maybe you need to go through and do a Functional Test with a scan tool or maybe there's something you can do with the car and press the gas pedal a few times and turn the key.
And then also when you're changing oil, how do you know what's the specifications? How much do I need? What type of oil do I need?
In the software on the MODIS Edge and VERUS Edge Snap-on has added a quick function that allows you to do all that just from one little section.
So let's go through and walk through on this Jeep how to do that. The vehicle ignition is on and the tool is hooked up to the diagnostic connector. Let's turn it on and then the tool is going to automatically identify the vehicle for us.
That little beep means it's done and we've got this little section here, Oil Specs and Resets. If I click on that, it's going to load up all the information into the tool.
There's the vehicle that we want so it's going to download the content. The first thing that's going to come up is if there's any other options for this vehicle, so we'll call it a Laredo.
Then here's my fluid capacity. It says I need six quarts and to use 5W20 oil, and it says I can also use 5W30 if I need to. This one needs a scan tool to actually reset it so up here there's an icon that looks like a diagnostic connector.
If you click that, then just click on Reset Oil Change Indicator and it's going to automatically reset it, and click Continue. So there's 98% oil life remaining. I'm going to reset that and now it's done.
So it’s as simple as that. We know how much oil to put in the vehicle, and then we're able to reset the light right after we're done with the oil change.
