The OBD Direct icon is located on the Home screen. This function allows you to access “generic” OBD-II/EOBD data.
Generic OBD-II/EOBD data is limited to emission related diagnostics such as:
| ● | Checking for emissions-related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) |
| ● | Checking the cause of an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) |
| ● | Checking monitor status prior to emissions certification testing |
| ● | Accessing the 10 OBD-II Service Modes |
| ● | Checking Readiness Monitor status |
The OBD-II/EOBD function can be useful in a situation where the vehicle is not recognized or is an OBD-II compliant vehicle that is not supported by the enhanced scanner software, as you can still access “generic” OBD-II/EOBD codes and data.
To access other available electronic control module (ECM) data for vehicle specific systems, parameters or enhanced diagnostics use the Scanner function.
The OBD-II/EOBD function can also be used to access “generic” OBD-II/EOBD data for OBD-II/EOBD compliant vehicles that are not included in the Scanner function databases. To access enhanced OBD-II/EOBD data, select Scanner from the Home screen.

Main Menu
Selecting OBD Direct from the Home screen opens a menu with the following options:
| ● | OBD Diagnose - provides access to available OBD vehicle readiness monitors, service modes, trouble codes, and data. See Selecting OBD Diagnose provides the following menu options (described in the following sections):. |
| ● | OBD Health Check - provides quick access to check and clear codes, check the readiness monitors, and check MIL status. See OBD Health Check. |
| ● | OBD Training Mode - allows you to familiarize yourself with the capabilities of OBD-II/EOBD while navigating through menus without being connected to a vehicle. |
To use the OBD Direct functions the Compact Scan Module (CSM) must be connected to the vehicle and communicating with the diagnostic tool.
