Snap-on Training Solutions® helps you get the most out of your TRITON-D8™ diagnostic tool. I'm Jim Moritz, global field trainer and sales support representative. This module covers basic Digital Multimeter Functions.
The digital multimeter gives you the ability to quickly test and verify failed components before replacing them. Select the Scope Multimeter icon from the home screen. Then select Digital Multimeter. This multi-function meter can be used for a variety of automotive electrical measurements like AC and DC voltage, DC current, resistance, and even diode continuity. To avoid damaging the meter. Never attempt to measure more than the meter's rated capacity. Most digital multimeter tests are made using leads like these. Current measurements require the optional precision low amp probe. This is especially useful for finding parasitic loads, faulty injectors, pumps and relays. Contact your Snap-on Representative to learn more about purchasing this option.
The digital multimeter displays a digital value. This type of display is typically used when the value being measured is not rapidly changing. During normal operation, the meter continually measures the input signal. The Stop button is used to stop or freeze the current measurement displayed. The Record button is used to resume operation. The meter also features tracking of the Min and Max measurements in the profile. Selecting the refresh icon clears these values and the tracking starts over. Use the expand / collapse icon to change display views and show profile controls. Here we see the expanded view and the collapsed view.
Meter Calibration. Before performing a resistance or current measurement. Calibrate the meter to ensure accurate results. To calibrate, select yes. Then select yes again. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the calibration. Once completed, zero ohms should be displayed when the leads are connected together. When the leads are separated, the upward arrows indicate infinite resistance or an open circuit.
