Top Technician and Top Garage '24 Conclude with Outstanding Show of Skill

The 2024 Top Technician and Top Garage competitions, presented by Aftermarket Magazine, wrapped up on 26th October after a series of rigorous rounds that put the UK’s best garage professionals to the test. Held across three online rounds, the competition culminated in a live semi-final where the top ten contestants battled for five finalist spots, concluding with a live final at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Coventry. 

Andrew Ruellan, of Ruellan’s Garage, emerged as the Top Technician 2024, with David Weston of Kia UK Ltd as a close runner-up. Completing the top five were Gary Birse (Motec Garage), John Fountain (John Fountain MOT & Towbars), and Gordon Wright (Porsche Centre Edinburgh). 

The winners were announced at the Top Technician and Top Garage Awards Evening. Andrew received a prize package valued at over £40,000, including cash, tools, and equipment from sponsors, topped off with a Snap-on® ZEUS+ Diagnostic Tool. David, as runner-up, received a prize package that included a Snap-on® TRITON-D10 Diagnostics Tool

Finalists: Adam Green Motors, AJ Fleetcare, Bayliss Garages, CT Cars Ltd, Bear and Bee Garage, Drive Green Vehicle Services, Millers Motor Services, Service MOT Repairs Ltd, The MINI Repair Shop.  

7-9 employees 2024— Fife AutoTech  

Finalists: Auto Works Service Centre, Billingborough Cars & Commercials, Boyd’s Motor Engineers, Bryan Swales Auto Repairs, Bryngwyn Service Station, Lawson Auto Tech, Marc’s Garage, P Breading Motor Services, TTR Garage Services.  

10+ employees 2024 — D&D Autos (Ashford) Ltd   

Finalists: A1 Autocentre, AAK Auto Services, Automax Group, Cleevely Motors, CSN Autos, Oldfields Garage Services, Ramsey Hill Garage, Ruellans Garage, Uckfield Motor Services.  

Multi-site 2024 — CCM   

Finalist Shaikly Motor Company.  

Service advisor 2024— Sharon McCormick  

Finalists: Asif Ali, James Cooper, Miriam English, Kara Hallett, Zub Iqbal, Jeanette Landale, Ross Martin, Alan Reeves, Kevin Shilling.  

BEN Workplace Health & Safety Award 2024 – Maitland Motors  

Finalists: Alga Garage, Automax Group Ltd, Boyd’s Motor Engineers Ltd, D&D Autos (Ashford) Ltd, Fife AutoTech, Lawson Auto Tech, Repayr My Car, Shaikly Motor Company Ltd, The MINI Repair Shop. 

Tristain Hindle, National Sales Manager for Snap-on Diagnostics and Garage Equipment, presented awards to the winners. He commented, “Snap-on has proudly supported Top Technician and Top Garage from the beginning. Each year, we witness these competitions grow in stature and skill, showcasing the finest talent in our industry.” 

He added, “Snap-on is committed to supporting the automotive sector’s growth and innovation to keep pace with evolving technology and regulations. Both Top Technician and Top Garage align with our Makers and Fixers programme, which celebrates the essential contributions of skilled professionals across industries.” 

Tristain concluded with a message to all involved: “Congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s competition. The standard was, once again, exceptionally high, and each competitor should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.”
