Vehicle manufacturers are continually developing solutions to ensure the security of vehicle networks, prevent unauthorized access, and mitigate cyber-attacks. One of these solutions involves implementing security measures like the FCA® (Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles) Secured Gateway, which serves to safeguard their systems. As a result, aftermarket diagnostic scan tools may require device registration and authentication to access specific functions within secured vehicles.
This changing landscape has led to the development of Snap-on® Security Link™ (formerly Secured Vehicle Gateway). Security Link™ provides technicians with access to OEM secure gateway functions directly from the scan tool – this includes Ford® 2018 & older and FCA® 2018 & newer vehicles (with access to Nissan coming soon!)
Snap-on and FCA® collaborated closely to create a solution that utilizes the FCA® Aftermarket Scan Tool User Management and Tool Registration system known as AUTOAUTH. This solution allows Wi-Fi enabled diagnostic scan tools with a current version of Snap-on® software to perform security link functions. By doing so, you can effectively prevent any potential disruptions when accessing the vehicle systems.
To ensure compliance with the FCA® secure gateway standards, all solutions must undergo device and user registration. Security Link™ is specifically designed to assist technicians in adapting to the evolving requirements as well as navigating this new registration process. Compatible diagnostic tools can seamlessly connect to the security link through a fast, easy, and secure channel between the technician, the scan tool, and OEM websites. As more OEMs adopt similar network protection technology, Snap-on's Security Link becomes invaluable in managing multiple OEM accounts directly through the tool's vehicle network access.
