Welcome to Snap-on Training Solutions. This module is designed to help you get the most out of your VERUS Edge diagnostic tool, and covers the vehicle identification process, code operations, using Demonstration Mode, SureTrack and more.
Vehicle ID
The first step in diagnosing any vehicle is to select the vehicle ID. Two access points to ID a vehicle are via the SCANNER icon or the VEHICLE HISTORY icon.
Another option is to select a vehicle ID from a previous RO or Repair Order in VEHICLE HISTORY on the home screen menu.
VERUS EDGE can hold as many previous ROs as the hard drive will allow, virtually unlimited. Simply select or highlight one of the previous ROs from the vehicle history folder.
To clear a previous vehicle ID, tap the CHANGE VEHICLE icon on the bottom tool bar.
When you choose CHANGE VEHICLE, the vehicle ID in the lower tool bar changes to NO ACTIVE VEHICLE.
Now select ACTIVATE from the upper tool bar to activate the vehicle or RO selected from the VEHICLE HISTORY files.
The vehicle ID on the bottom tool bar now indicates the new vehicle chosen.
Select SCANNER from the home page.
Confirm the vehicle you've selected from the Vehicle History files. Select OK and you have automatically ID'd the previous vehicle and are ready to resume diagnosing this vehicle using the Scanner function.
Now use the HOME icon to return to the main menu page.
The way to access a new vehicle is via the Scanner selection from the home page menu.
Before we start be sure to select CHANGE VEHICLE from the bottom tool bar to clear the previous vehicle and ensure No Active Vehicle is displayed.
We are going to use the Demonstration vehicle built into the vehicle selection menu. Let’s create a new ID for the demo Vehicle.
Select Demonstration from the bottom of the vehicle application menu.
Select 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe North American Demo.
Select OK to confirm the Chevrolet Tahoe Demonstration vehicle selection.
A reminder tells you that you are in Demonstration mode. You should not be connected to a vehicle’s Data Link Connector.
System Selection
After completing the vehicle ID, select the desired system to diagnose. For our purpose today select ENGINE. Navigation for all other systems is similar.
The screen indicates the correct adapter depending on the Year, Make and Model. On an OBD-II vehicle it will instruct you to connect the DA-4 cable to the Data Link Connector under the dash.
For demo purposes this is not necessary, simply select Continue.
Codes Menu
You now have access to all Engine functions for our Chevy Tahoe vehicle. This would be the same process if you were actually identifying and connecting to any of thousands of other customers’ vehicles. You are now ready to start diagnosing the vehicle.
Select Codes Menu.
Our first step is to display codes. This opens a list of diagnostic trouble codes, or DTCs stored in the Control Module, or ECM.
Select Display Codes.
Select All Powertrain Codes.
A list of DTCs appears, along with the code description. Don’t forget to scroll to see more codes.
Notice the Fix It menu at the right of each code.
Fix It
Selecting Fix It provides access to SureTrack™ information, designed to help you improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce repair time. SureTrack provides diagnostic experience and detailed parts replacement records from millions of successful completed repair orders. To access SureTrack, you must have internet access and the current software upgrade installed on the tool.
The SureTrack graph shows Common Replaced Parts used to repair vehicles like the one currently identified. The graph shows the percentage of repairs that included each part listed. And results are shown based on vehicle mileage at the time of repair.
Related Tips opens a list of tips that may include information related to the current DTC.
Real Fixes opens a list of tips related to the current DTC that have been gathered from actual shop repair orders and presented in a Complaint, Cause, Correction format.
Repair Information opens the ShopKey Pro website. This requires an internet connection and a current ShopKey Pro subscription.
With ShopKey Pro or ProDemand Repair Information, links to the OEM trouble trees are automatically presented.
ShopKey Pro Mobile and ProDemand Mobile are now available and can be configured to open when accessing repair information.
